To Nikolai Kanchev

Peer through the eye of sleep
into the forest of doubts.
They are waiting for you to come back.

Put your arms around the waist
of a willow bowed to the water.
Such a distant memory.

Step across the threshold of smiles,
climb down from the stilts of fear,
when the dream is over.

And if there’s someone in the forest,
don’t go alone, child!

Take me with you
into a forest where there is someone.
