Translated from the Bulgarian · Зелено, зелено, прозрачно и задимено

We had set out to save a single bush.
And in high spirits we sang all together.
And beneath our footsteps, along the road, bushes lay down.

Now we had come quite close, quite close.
And emboldened by the good cause, drunk on it even,
we broke off dry branches and kindled a dry fire.

Green flames, green branches, translucent smoke
drifted over the valley, toward the trees and bushes
like a greeting, a warning and an invitation.
