Young, Just as You Are.
Alexander Androv
Translated from the Bulgarian · Млада така, както си си.
Most of your antechambers
are silted up already,
ah, so young, just as you are.
Access is granted everywhere,
and we talk, we laugh,
lightly and credulously.
But most of your antechambers
are sealed.
Out of incomprehension,
by tradition and from carelessness
you settle like slag,
young, just as you are.
Ah, who put that bee in our bonnet?
It surely won’t come back again,
and I did enjoy our talking and laughing.
And one day, when you become a mother,
out of the cycle itself,
just as you are,
some hope will be born.
