A feast begins,
more glorious than many feasts
Already the guests begin to recline
and satyrs pour their wine, diluted with thoughts

A feast begins,
of all feasts the most awaited
The hetaerae have stepped down from the frescoes in the hall
and you watch their first words, struck dumb

A feast begins,
of all feasts the most fearsome
The thirsting ones sing a melody of passionate tenderness
and your companions raise sated glances and insatiable fingers

A feast begins,
of all feasts the very first
and in it each one has his own small share
the silent Fates know...
But enough — the satyr has sung...
A feast begins
