A Word That Does Not Exist
Alexander Androv
Translated from the Bulgarian · Дума, която не съществува
They printed a word that does not exist.
And since no one managed to understand it,
they found it a meaning.
Like a dress thrown over a bare belly.
They put the word on the radio
and explained it through an interview with a Wise Man.
Their ratings didn’t budge.
And the word put on its hat and walked out.
They held an exhibition of 19 paintings
that bore its name.
An elderly lady
found its meaning in painting no. 11
while the word was selling tickets to latecomers.
The song in which the only word
was the word that did not exist
became a hit very quickly.
Everyone wanted to dance with the word
to its melody,
but the word politely declined,
because it felt
that its high heels gave it a slight stoop.
