Translated from the Bulgarian · Петли на комина

The roosters begin
It’s not yet dawn
I wake up
I rouse myself
I rouse...
The roosters stopped
Fell asleep
Why should I wake?
The roosters don’t mistake
The direction of the sun,
aimed toward the east
The taste of the wind,
soaked up in the south
The colour of the truth,
paling upward

from one night in 1990
to the late afternoon of 2006
